Yesterday, OpenAI had the first of their 12 days of announcements. They released o1, the successor to their o1-preview model. I know many people have strong opinions about AI, and I have some of my own, but I’m not here to add to the hype, mention the singularity, or discuss the future of the planet. For me, it’s just cool technology. Ever since I was a little kid, I’ve loved playing with new tech, regardless of public opinion.

I tried o1 for the first time this morning. It was okay. I’ll see if the improvements are meaningful for my line of work over the next few days. I created a simple prototype for my next possible app, and it performed pretty well.
